NKF U.S. Transplant Games, Madison, WI

                              July 30-August 4, 2010

The U.S. Transplant Games are an awesome way to show the world just how well transplantation works.  They are an Olympic-style event held every two years in the U.S with the World Transplant Games held in the off year and sponsored by The National Kidney Foundation. The athletes participate in events such as track & field, swimming, bowling, tennis, cycle racing and golf just to name a few, and the competition is fierce.  The Games have been growing since 1982 and participation is open to anyone who has received a life saving organ or bone marrow transplant.  All fifty states participate leading to over 2000 athletes, 5000 spectators, family and friends from around the globe; in addition to honoring more than 1200 participating donor families in remembrance and celebration of those who chose to give the Gift of Life.  It is an overwhelming show of strength, faith, love and health, all brought on because someone decided to be an organ donor.  The goal of the games is to promote Organ Donor Awareness and to show the world that there is life after transplantation and it can be a full life.

After nearly 20 years of organizing the U.S. Transplant Games, The National Kidney Foundation strives to continue the mission of spreading organ donation awareness by showcasing the success of life after transplant.  The Games have proven to be a powerful mechanism in reaching thousands of people. The mission of the NKF U.S. Transplant Games is to demonstrate the success of transplantation, honor those who have given the Gift of Life, and call attention to the need for more organ donors.
